Buena Vista University will be experimenting with Apple iPads during the spring 2011 semester. The university, located in Storm Lake, IA, has about 1,100 students. The iPad pilot program is a part of an ongoing research project to evaluate the use of e-readers to support student learning.

Potential presidential candidates were in Des Moines Wednesday to speak at a Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators event rally held outside the state capitol building.

Differences between the two Democrats competing for the Iowa House District 66 seat couldn’t be more stark. And although most observers think incumbent Ako Abdul-Samad is safe, the candidates’ differing views on same-sex marriage could turn the district into a testing ground for the fall campaign.

Barack Obama promised to double funding for charter schools, pay teachers based on performance and replace those who aren't up to the job, embracing education proposals normally more popular with Republican candidates. I think that this is a good idea because teachers need to do the best that they can for the students.

At this defining moment in our history, America faces few more urgent challenges than preparing our children to compete in a global economy," Obama said. I agree with Obama, our eduction system needs to be strengthened.
